Move a Washing Machine

If you are renewing, servicing or repairing your washing machine, then you may have to disconnect it yourself before the professional plumber can do his work or before you carry on. It is a great flood risk.To Begin:Pull the machine out and away from the wall. The machine is usually plugged in via a 13 amp plug and socket. So now unplug the machine. Your machine may have two hoses (hot and cold), if that is the case it is an older machine as they now only come with a cold water pipe. Turn them both off and disconnect the hoses. If it has only one then again turn it off. There is no reason to isolate the whole water supply, because the pipe that attach to the hoses have levers fitted. These are normally chrome isolators that fit to the appliances hose(s). To turn these off you move the lever 90, so it sits straight across the hose. You can do this for both. Place a bowl or container under the isolators for any water that runs away when you undo the valves. Undo the rubber hoses by hand, (you might need a wrench). Check that isolation valves are closed and are not leaking. A Bounds Green Plumber can fit a new washing machine. If a Chrome Isolator Tap Leaks:1). Turn the water off at the main stop-cock. Drain the system at the kitchen sink by opening faulty tap and allowing the water to run away.2). Remove the isolator that is at fault by unscrewing the nut at the back of the tap that connects it to the pipe using an adjustable spanner3). Having already purchased a replacement chrome isolator. Re-fit the part using the old back nut and olive, although if the olive is damaged either use PTFE tape or cut the pipe back if wanted, using a pipe slice and fit a new nut and olive on the end. Bounds Green Plumbers fit new chrome isolators.
